Three checklists from a professional Organiser to help you get you sorted for the new school year

As a professional organiser, I like to plan ahead, so with only a few days to go until a new school year, it's time to get organised and make sure that everything is ready to make the return to school as smooth as possible. Which items you need will depend on your child and their age, but it can be tough to try and remember everything that's needed, so I've put together three basic checklists to help you organise for the Autumn term. I hope they make life just that bit easier in the run up to school.

1) The Basic Uniform Checklist:

September. Autumn Term. It could be unseasonably warm, it could be misty and damp, we could be in for a chilly or soggy time, so best to be prepared for all weathers. I haven't included woolly hats, gloves or scarves, but if you're planning ahead, they may be needed after half-term towards the end of the year.

2) The Basic Equipment Checklist:

Every school is different and depending your child's year group, you'll need different items. Some won't be suitable for younger children, but I've put together some of the most commonly needed as starting point, just pick out what you need. Half term is a good time to check the equipment list again as some of it may have gone missing and some may need replacing - it's always the highlighters in our house.

3) The Basic PE Kit checklist:

This list covers indoor and outdoor lessons and again, depending on the school and the age of your child you may need some or all of the items on this list. Different schools have different regulations about items of sports kit containing prominent branded logos or slogans, so its best to check beforehand. Protective items such as shin pads and gum shields are also commonly needed depending on which sports are included on your school's PE curriculum.

The return to earlier mornings and routine can be a stressful time for parents and children alike, so I hope that these handy checklists will make life that little bit simpler come September.

Happy Organising
